Complete Physical Exams

As we age, we tend to ignore aches, pains and other physical symptoms that may be a warning sign that something is not going right in our bodies. If you are experiencing discomfort, you should consult your physician. However, yearly examinations may help your physician detect a problem early and recommend treatment options to keep you healthy.

Yearly physical exams vary by age and gender. Your doctor will make sure you have the appropriate tests for your age, and health history. Emory-The Doctor's Office provides annual physicals for men and women of all ages to make sure you live a long, healthy, active life. If you would like to schedule an annual physical, please contact Emory-The Doctor's Office at a location near you.

Sports Physicals

Emory - The Doctor's Office provides sports physicals for schools, teams and individual athletes. A Pre-Participation Physical Examination (PPE) at the beginning of your sports season is very important to ensure your or your child's safety while they participate. Many states, schools and teams require a PPE prior to participation. The exam is designed to assess any possible risks to you or your child's participation in a sport. Regardless of requirements, Emory - The Doctor's Office recommends that athletes undergo a physical examination prior to participating in any sport.

First we take a look at your medical history to consider genetic predispositions, and personal histories of health symptoms during strenuous activities. Next we perform the physical exam which includes measurements of height, weight, blood pressure and pulse. We will also check your vision, heart, lungs, abdomen, ears, nose and throat. After your basic physical, we finish by evaluating your flexibility, strength and posture, as well as joint function.

During the exam your doctor may also ask you about use of drugs, supplements, alcohol, etc, which may affect an athlete's performance and overall health. You will leave our office with the results of your sports exam, and possible recommendations for changes in diet, exercise/stretching, etc. to improve overall health and athletic performance. If you would like to schedule a sports physical for yourself or your child, please contact Emory - The Doctor's Office at a location near you.

School Physicals

Georgia has the 17th highest level of adult obesity in the nation at 28.7 percent. Even our elementary school children are rating high in the overweight department. With obesity comes various health conditions that, if detected early, can be prevented entirely.

Many states require physical examinations before children start kindergarten, grade school and high school. Emory-The Doctor's Office recommends yearly school physicals for grade school and high school students. Depending on the age and family health history, we will tailor our basic school exam for your child. As a baseline we test, we measure height, weight, blood pressure, pulse, and urine. We discuss with both parents and children any symptoms they may have encountered during physical activity, concentration levels, sleep patterns, and any discomfort they may be encountering.

We provide you with a full report of your child's physical health and any recommendations for improving health or follow up visits. If you would like to schedule a school physical for your child, please contact Emory - The Doctor's Office at a location near you.

Camp Physicals

Many summer camps and sports camps require a physical exam before children and adults can attend. Emory - The Doctor's Office recommends a physical exam for children and teens prior to attending camp. Although most camps have a nurse or emergency care provider on staff, your children are out of your care and sight while they are at camp. A camp physical will give you as a parent, peace of mind, knowing that our physicians have conducted a thorough evaluation of your child's health. A camp physical may also help prevent injuries and will give the camp healthcare staff a good overview of your child's health. If you would like to schedule a camp physical for your child, please contact Emory - The Doctor's Office at a location near you.

Drug Testing

Emory - The Doctor's Office, LLC provides pre-employment, post-offer, random, D.O.T., reasonable suspicion and return to work drug screenings at any of our offices with immediate, computer generated reports.

Our in-house labs are each equipped to collect samples and conduct drug testing in the office with immediate results. Using the computerized, "hands-off" eScreen system, our system provides secure test results, enabling employers to make same-day hiring decisions. Printed test result reports are sent to employers immediately, via secure e-mail or automatic fax

All test results are reviewed by a MRO (Medical Review Officer), who is dedicated to drug testing. The applicant or employee's legal prescriptions are always compared against test results by the MRO to separate illegal use from legitimate medical treatment. Drug test specimen collection and/or testing are performed in accordance with SAMSHA, DOT and ADA procedures and regulations. Our staff is trained and supervised by a certified Drug & Alcohol Program Testing Manager.

(Note: We do NOT use the "instant test cups" or "dip cards" that you may have seen at other facilities. Those rely on human interpretation of color changes and use handwritten reports, which can be subject to human error.)

Are you at Risk of having a Heart Attack or Stroke? Emory-The Doctor's Office in Peachtree City offers a comprehensive approach to evaluating your risk for heart attack and stroke utilizing a metabolic and genetic analysis as well as a structural (CIMT) and functional (CPET) assessment.

Know the facts:
  • Cardiovascular disease is the number one killer in the U.S. for both men and women.
  • Over 50 percent of all heart attack and stroke patients have "normal" cholesterol.
  • One in 30 female deaths are from breast cancer, while on in 2.6 are from cardiovascular disease.
  • Nearly 2500 Americans die of cardiovascular disease each day, one death every 37 seconds, more than the deaths caused by all forms of cancer.
  • 50 percent of men and 64 percent of women who died suddenly of coronary heart disease had NO previous symptoms of this disease.
  • Do you have any of these risk factors?
  • 45 years old or more
  • Family history of heart attack or stroke
  • Excess Body Weight
  • Smoker (currently or in the past)
  • High blood pressure
  • Diabetes / Metabolic Syndrome
  • High Cholesterol, LDL, Triglycerides, Low HDL Cholesterol
  • Little or no Exercise / Poor Diet

What is CIMT and how does it work?
Carotid Intima Media Thickness (CIMT) scanning is the most accurate non-invasive screening method available for predicting the risk of heart attack or stroke. The procedure is simple, painless, free of radiation and completed in 10 minutes. If results show increased risk for heart attack or stroke, your doctor may prescribe medication(s) and/or lifestyle changes.

What is CPET?
The Cardiopulmonary Exercise Test measures how well your heart, lungs and muscles work together. If you have fatigue, chest pain or shortness of breath, the CPET can help our doctor determine whether your symptoms are due to a medical problem (such as heart of lung disease) or due to poor fitness. The results do help to determine the proper course of treatment.
